Reviews of Laptop For Blogging And Bloggers

Apple MacBook Air

2020 Apple MacBook Air with Apple M1 Chip (13-inch, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD Storage) - Gold

If you plan on video blogging rather than regular blogging, this laptop has all you could ask for – Apple MacBooks are one of the most wished for laptops on the market, because of their unbelievable performance and specs…

This Apple MacBook Air features an 8-core processor, that’s able to work at nearly three times the speed of previous versions of Apple processors.

And there’s a staggering 16 GB of RAM there too, which means that you can carry out high quality video editing without worrying about the computer freezing on you or slowing you down.

But the real stand-out feature of the MacBook Air has to be it’s M1 chip. It has a built-in neural engine, which can do things that used to be considered futuristic, such as video analysis and voice recognition.

There’s also substantial on-board storage, which comes in at a whopping 2 TB, which is the most I’ve seen any laptop offer. And of course, it’s all solid state storage, so retrieval of video files is very slick and speedy.

And there’s another phenomenal spec besides – the Apple MacBook Air sports a phenomenal battery life of up to a mind-blowing 20 hours on a full charge.

The only real drawback is the size of the screen – it’s just 13 inches, whereas the average laptop is about 15 inches. But it’s still bigger than most tablets. And the screen size shouldn’t be a problem, and you will still be able to see both sidebar menus when you’re using your blogging platform.

Sure, the MacBook Air, as with most Apple products, is more expensive than most Windows based laptops out there, but it works out at less than the average price of a top quality gaming laptop.

Buying Guide

As promised, here’s your buying guide, designed to guide you through the process of choosing your laptop for blogging.

Blogging Software

If you don’t consider yourself to be particularly up to speed when it comes to computers and technology, you’ll be pleased to hear that these days you don’t need to know a single line of coding to create or market your blog. Your blogging software can take care of all of that for you.

Most blogging software doesn’t come with many special hardware requirements, but it’s worth noting at this point that some blogging software works better on some operating systems than others.

For beginners to blogging, we would recommend using the Windows 10 operating system or above, and the WordPress blogging platform. WordPress has all the bells and whistles.

Where To Store Your Webpages

Most bloggers don’t store their webpages on their home PC, and it is instead typically stored in the cloud.

You can keep a copy of all of your blog web pages on your laptop if you want to, but then you will also need to download an FTP client.

But even if you kept all of your pages solely on the website itself, you may well want to store some files on your laptop that you will then upload directly to your website, e.g. pictures.

What Hardware Specs Do I Need For Regular Blogging?

CPU

For regular blogging, we would recommend that you go for a laptop with a multi-core processor, such as 8th generation and up Intel Core i3 CPUs or the AMD Ryzen 3 or above.

RAM

If you wish to do a little photo editing on the pics you use on your blog, then you’re going to need about 8 GB of RAM.

Storage

We would also recommend laptops with a minimum of 128 GB of SSD storage space.

What Hardware Specs Do I Need For Vlogging?

Vlogging however is a whole other ball game…

CPU

We would recommend that you go for a laptop with a multi-core processor, such as the Intel i5, i7, or i9, or the AMD equivalents.

RAM

Ideally, you should go for a laptop with at least 16 GB of RAM. More would be better.

Storage

You will need a minimum of 256 GB of SSD on-board storage space.

What Kind Of Screen  Do I Need?

Technically, you don’t really need a big screen for regular blogging. But, most blogging software will feature large menu bars on either side of the user interface.

And some will feature a preview display on one side. So we would argue that the bigger your screen is the better. We recommend going for a laptop with a screen that’s at least 15 inches wide.

These days, brand-new laptops generally come with a High Definition screen, if not Full HD. And this is more than sufficient, whether you have a regular blog, or a video blog.

We also recommend getting one with an IPS display if you can, because this makes it easier to see the screen from any angle.

Other Things To Consider

Integrated Webcam & Microphone

Technically you could run a vlog through the camera and microphone that comes integrated with your laptop, although professional vloggers don’t do this, and they buy special video cameras and microphones for the job.

Portability & Battery Life

If you like to be on the go, and perhaps blog away from your favorite cafĂ©, then you’re going to need a laptop that’s sufficiently portable and with plenty of battery life. Luckily, these features tend to be quite commonplace in laptops at the moment.

Value For Money

You don’t really need to buy a super expensive laptop for blogging, unless you intend to video blog. Our advice to you is to check prices as you go along.
