The news came on the last day of the month from Linux Mint. The new version of Linux Mint which is Linux Mint 20 will be called Ulyana.
What is Ulyana?
Linux Mint release post has not released anything other than the name. But a simple google search shows the word “Ulyana” comes from the Russian origin and it means Youthful.
Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana” Base
Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana” will be based on the upcoming Ubuntu release, 20.04 “Focal Fossa”. Focal Fossa is scheduled to be released on 23rd of this month.
No 32-bit release
Another important news about the upcoming Linux mint is that it will only release 64-bit version. No 32-bit iso.
Along with the release of the codename and the code base of the next Linux Mint, the team also announced a new software that the team has been working is almost ready. For now they are calling it Warpinator, a utility to share files on local network.
The devs are calling the sharing tool Warpinator. It is not the permanent name. And devs are open for any suggestions from the community. So if you have a name in mind, do tell them. Though I think Warpinator is not a bad name.
Pink & Aqua are two new color variants
Ulyana will have two more color options for theme, pink and Aqua. Take a look at the initial released screenshots of the colors.
Nemo performance update
Last but not least. Linux Mint team is working on its file manager’s performance. It’s trying to make it faster by prioritizing the rendering of content over thumbnails.
Currently, the file manager renders content and thumbnails asynchronously. Rendering the directory content with generic thumbnails and delay the rendering of actual thumbnails improves the performance.
According to the devs, this performance improvement will also be helpful for people using slow hard disks and heavy I/O.
